Building Resilience:A 3-Month Online Course Empowers Rural Communities

From December 2023 to February 2024, the Laudato Si’ Asia Coalition for Culture of Care, Resilience & Ecological Justice (LSIA-CAREJ) and Asian Sacred Wisdom (ASW) successfully delivered the ‘Foundation Course in Rural Community Resilience to Climate Change Impacts’

This free, 8-Days online course equipped community leaders, civil society organizations (CSOs), and indigenous leaders (including women and youth) with the knowledge and tools to build resilience in their communities facing climate challenges.

Course participants gained insights into:

  • The global climate crisis and its specific impacts on Asian indigenous communities.
  • Building strong social networks, a critical foundation for resilience.
  • Utilizing natural resources/ecosystem capital, social capital, and farm technologies effectively for adaptation.
  • Settlements and landscapes designs that can withstand climate threats.
  • Developing the ability to adapt to changing environmental circumstances.

By fostering a deeper understanding of the climate crisis and practical strategies for building resilience, the course empowered participants to play a vital role in safeguarding the well-being of their communities.
