In the summer of 2027, Seoul, South Korea will host the World Youth Day (WYD), the largest youth gathering of the Catholic Church, with one million participants expected from around the world. We hope that insights from the 25th World Scout Jamboree will contribute to a successful WYD 2027 and revitalize youth and young adult ministry.
In preparation for this significant event, a webinar titled “World Youth Day and the Role of the Church” was held on August 28th which focused on discussing the possible challenges the Korean Catholic Church may face while hosting the World Youth Day in 2027. Approximately 60 individuals, including priests, women in religious roles, and lay people took part in the discussion.
Every second Friday of the month, WTI participates in ecumenical prayer groups for peace. The prayer service is held at the Episcopal Spirituality Center and the Episcopal Cathedral, which host a monthly vigil focused on peace in war-torn and conflict-affected areas like Gaza, as well as addressing violence and discrimination against marginalized and vulnerable communities worldwide.
This Peace Prayer Vigil brings together people from all ages and denominations, united in their refusal to give up on peace. Since the first prayer vigil of 2024 held during the 2024 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, the group has gathered in the Center near to the main street in downtown Seoul, to raise awareness and encourage more people to join them in praying for peace, especially in these crucial times.
